Type of Cookies We Use
Cookies can be "Persistent" or "Session" Cookies. Persistent Cookies remain on your personal computer or mobile device when You go offline, while Session Cookies are deleted as soon as You close your web browser.

These are required for the Website to function and to remember your cookie choice. They are set regardless of your preferences. They include:
balances_cookie_consent (a browser localStorage entry rather than a cookie) and balances_necessary — record that you have seen the banner and made a choice. Retained up to 1 year.
balances_analytics and balances_marketing — record whether you opted in or out of analytics and marketing cookies, so we can respect that choice. Retained up to 1 year.
signed_in — set by the Balances app when you sign in, and removed when you sign out. It holds no identifier; the Website reads it only to show an “Open Balances” button instead of “Log in”. Retained for as long as your sign-in session can last, up to 30 days.
Analytics & Performance Cookies

These help us understand how visitors use the Website so we can improve it. They include analytics storage from Mixpanel (page views and interactions), session-recording storage from Mixpanel (on-screen text is masked), and diagnostic session-replay storage from Sentry (text masked, media blocked). Error-monitoring by Sentry that does not involve replay runs as a necessary operational function.
United States, and Canada outside Quebec: Mixpanel analytics is on by default. A notice tells you so, and you can opt out from it or from Cookie Settings at any time.
European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Quebec, all other locations, and whenever we cannot determine your location: nothing in this category is set unless you accept it via our cookie banner.
Session recording (Mixpanel and Sentry) runs only after you accept, everywhere.
We determine your country (and, in Canada, province) from your connection through our hosting provider, Cloudflare, at the time of your visit. We do not store it. We keep that result in your browser for the session (balances_geo, a sessionStorage entry) and remember that you dismissed the analytics notice (balances_analytics_notice_seen, localStorage).
Cookieless Traffic Measurement

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and measure page performance. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage, and does not fingerprint or track you across sites or visits, so it runs without a consent choice.
We do not currently use targeting or advertising cookies, and we do not use third-party advertising networks on this Website.
Your Choices Regarding Cookies
Where opt-in applies, our cookie banner lets you Accept or Reject non-essential (analytics and marketing) cookies, and nothing beyond necessary cookies is set until you accept. Where analytics is on by default, a notice lets you Opt out. An opt-out or Reject is recorded (in the balances_analytics cookie shared with app.balances.ai) and honored in every region. We do not use advertising cookies and do not sell your data. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer of the Website, which reopens the banner. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If You do not accept Our non-essential Cookies, the Website will still function; some analytics-driven improvements simply won't apply to your session.
